The unsettled atmosphere surrounding all of us today and every day can create havoc with creativity.
Marketing and sales can be a bore if it turns to fodder. Sales can be the bogeyman that our little ones meet on certain nights that need attention. Employees’ creativity becomes limp in a pressurized situation, shortening people’s temper. People cannot put their finger on the next idea that was there a minute ago.
What you also must remember, other workers may view employees in marketing and those on your
sales team in a different light compared to other employees. Marketing and advertising are creative creatures. Other workers think paid sales people waste too much money and time while eating their lunch with a customer or prospect.
Which means they are the least understood jobs in your company. If either is correct or both are, here are a couple of thoughts to consider.
Remember, marketing is an art, and treated as one.
Advertising is a functional part of marketing, but marketing is everything starting and ending with your customer… cater to them, listen to them, and react to them. Your results are amazing.
Marketing can be a game of guessing for customers, but maybe assess everything first. Unfortunately, few
customers get it. Astute customers will learn where to look for offers. Put them in the right place.
A percentage of your customers love to delve into a marketer’s brain. An experienced marketer will track the campaigns that score the highest with customers.
You will also find the smart marketer has hunting skills. Not the kind with a weapon, but a person having the instinct to find a winner in marketing. If you have a person like this on your team, you know what to look for when hiring another team marketing person. In the present economy, change is in your favor with a hire.
Last, whatever you learn about your market, prospects, competition, and customers, enter this data into a database or CRM. Collect more data and build customer profiles and for prospects as well. Each quarter, if that is your customer and prospect contact schedule, you get additional data to use by building segments in your database for your next challenge. The more you know, the more you grow.
